چکیده

ABSTRACT: This study measured milk and solid feed intake in pre- weaning period postweaning of Nellore calves, to correlated them with performance traits ingestive behavior animals classified as most least efficient. During pre phase, efficiency was evaluated 51 cow-calf pairs from 21±5 days after calving until weaning. post-weaning only male calves (n=23) were evaluated. Pre-weaning estimated based on cow’s production. daily metabolizable energy (MEI) the sum MEI diet. There no difference ADG between negative positive RFI, a consequent better conversion more efficient calves. The spent less time at bunk, shorter feeding duration higher rate intake, compared animals. Correlations metabolic body weight during phases positive, medium high magnitude, significant, while correlation values close zero. Results suggested that part ranked won’t maintain their rank phase. In conclusion, pre-weaning phase have similar gain but lower than RFI is weakly post showing not consistent or repeatable across two periods.

FABP4 is a leading candidate gene associated with residual feed intake in growing Holstein calves.

Ecological and economic concerns drive the need to improve feed utilization by domestic animals. Residual feed intake (RFI) is one of the most acceptable measures for feed efficiency (FE). However, phenotyping RFI-related traits is complex and expensive and requires special equipment. Advances in marker technology allow the development of various DNA-based selection tools. To assimilate these t...

Modeling the effects of liquid intake and weaning on digestibility of nutrients in pre- and post-weaned dairy calves

Most nutrient models predict supply of metabolizable energy (ME) and metabolizable protein (MP); in lactation models, flow of nutrients are predicted from endogenous, microbial, and undegraded dietary sources. Nutrient requirements are usually predicted using factorial calculation of requirements for maintenance (adjusted for environmental and management considerations), growth, pregnancy, and ...

effect of amount alfalfa hay and replacing corn grain by other grains in starter on performance of pre and post-weaning holstein calves- a meta-analysis

this study was carried out to assess the effects of alfalfa hay level and replacing corn grain by other grains in starter on daily feed intake, average daily gain (adg) and feed efficiency (fe) of pre and post-weaning dairy calves during the pre and post-weaning periods. for this purpose, a database meta-analysis used in the present study. statistical analyses were performed using proc mixed in...

Changes in plasma volatile fatty acids in response to weaning and feed intake in young calves.

Effects of weaning age on plasma VFA were examined using 16 Holstein heifer calves. Animals entered the study at 6 +/- 3.5 d of age and were fed 1.8 kg milk twice daily to 28 (early weaning) or 56 d (late weaning) and a commercial pelleted calf starter from 0 (early) or 28 (late) d. Blood was sampled once weekly for 14 wk. Total blood concentrations of VFA, acetate, propionate, and butyrate wer...

Residual Feed Intake and Feed Efficiency: Differences and Implications

In the beef production system, 70-75% of the total dietary energy is used for maintenance (Ferrell and Jenkins 1984; NRC 1996; Montaldo-Bermudez et al. 1990). Thus, while only 5% of the total life cycle dietary energy consumption is used for protein deposition in beef cattle, swine and poultry are more efficient at 14 and 22%, respectively. The relatively large size, slow maturity and slow repr...
